The Art of Authoring
- Why should I put my simulation into the USIP OSP?
- We have a long list of reason for loading simulations into the USIP OSP.
- Can I get certified as a USIP OSP Simulation Author?
- Not yet, but we are working on some questions that could go into a USIP OSP Simulation Author Exam.
General Authoring Questions
- How many people can play in a simulation?
There is no theoretical limit, but in practice a simulation with too many actors will become unwieldy.
- How many injects can I have?
There is no theoretical limit to this either. An inject is used to get the players to react to a change in the situation. With each inject one should have in mind a learning object (Exactly what is you want to teach with this?) and be prepared for the way the students might response.
- How do I try out the sim? Should I create a new identity as an instructor and go through it that way?
Really to test out a sim, one needs to walk through it, and then walk through it with a trusted group of helpers (beta testers). The 'Play' Section is where you will do this. If you want to assign yourself to all of the roles (and then login and logout as each of the different persons) you can do this pretty quickly by selecting 'Launch Beta Test.'
- How do I 'save' my simulation?
Your simulation is saved on the server after every change you make.
- How do I save a copy of my simulation to my machine?
- Go into the 'Share' section
- Go into the 'Package Simulation' section
- Package your simulation by clicking on the button to the right of its name.
- After the simulation saves, click on the newly formed link on its name, this will take you to the XML file.
- Save the XML file to your machine.
- What are typical Simulation Objectives?
- We are beginning a list USIP OSP Example Simulation Objectives for people to reference.
Features
- Is it possible to have "Breadcrumbs" in the top navigation area indicating where user is in the phase progression?
Currently we do this via Simile Timelines.
- Is it possible to have videos for introducing roles/casts?
If the video is accessible via a web site, you can create a simulation section that points directly towards it.
