Platform Audiences

Platform User Roles

This document describes the user audiences for the Peace Platform. These are the different types of users who will be interacting with the platform.

Note that these are user types for the platform as a whole, not for individual simulations. Audiences and users for each simulation will vary based on the nature of the simulation and the roles defined within that simulation.

There are currently 4 user types defined for the platform: Administrator, Author, Facilitator, and Player. The following sections delineate the platform support and specific capabilities provided to each user type.

Administrator

One or more administrators will oversee the platform operation, insuring that other user types are able to obtain full functionality from the system.

Administrator functions and features on the platform include:

  • Install and maintain the overall platform
  • Create and manage all platform user types (admins, authors, facilitators, players)
  • Create, re-write and delete database
  • Can do everything authors, facilitators and players can do

Author

Authors will use the platform to author simulation templates, which can be used by facilitators to engage and teach players in running simulations.

Author features on the platform include:

  • Create simulation templates
  • Edit all aspects of a simulation template
  • Create and administer facilitators
  • Can do everything facilitators and players can do

Facilitator

Facilitators will use the platform to facilitate running simulations, guiding players and using news updates and other injections to steer the flow of play.

Facilitator features on the platform include:

  • Initiate running simulations from simulation templates
  • Create and administer players
  • View list of currently running simulations
  • View state and activity for a selected simulation
  • Change phases within a running simulation
  • Send out news updates to a running simulation
  • Can do everything players can do
  • Terminate play
  • Write the After Action Report

Player

Players will use the platform to learn by interacting and role playing. Different players will assume one or more roles within a running simulation, and contribute accordingly.

Player features on the platform include:

  • Log in to simulation and play
  • Receive news udpates and notification of phase changes
  • Chat with other players
  • View After Action Report?
