Most USIP OSP Events are trainings done in the classroom. But more and more public and semi-public events are sure to be had surrounding the USIP OSP.

USIP OSPCon 2011

We are now in the planning stages for an event to be held in Washington DC around September.

Current ideas include:

  • I think it would be great having some time to really run through some simulations, provide group feedback, refine them and run them again while we are together as a group.
  • I am interested in examining mechanisms and strategies to promote accountability for International Humanitarian Law violations committed during counterinsurgencies, perhaps focusing on the case of Sri Lanka. It might be timely to do a simulation against the backdrop of domestic and international efforts to address IHL violations committed during the counterinsurgency.
  • I would suggest a session on outreach-- how do we explain the utility of the programs OSP can handle to those with relatively little background?
  • We could role-play as the simulation design team. People would be divided into several different groups (e.g. simulation scenario designers, content providers, educational objectives/instructional designers, graphics providers), and we could structure the sessions similar to how software is designed...perhaps structured around several brainstorming session, and then ending with a formative evaluation of the simulation by playing it together.
Since the work is divided, we might be able to do the whole thing in one day, and then play and provide feedback the next day.
  • A session discussing the entire life cycle process of creating, testing, publishing, monitoring and refining simulations. It will include a discussion on how the community wants to version simulations, so we have a good idea where a simulation stands just based on its version number.
